Faysal Bank Twenty-20 Cup 2011-12

The Twenty-20 Cup is a professional league for Twenty20 cricket competition in Pakistan, initiated in 2004 by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and is currently sponsored by Faysal Bank.[1] The league currently consists of 13 teams, however is expected to be replaced next year with the new Pakistan Premier League ending a seven-year tenure of Pakistan's first domestic cricket competition.

History

Beginning in 2004, the Twenty-20 Cup was sponsored by ABN AMRO. In 2008, it was renamed as the RBS Twenty20 Cup being sponsored by Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS). In 2010, Faysal Bank took over the sponsorship after RBS's contract expired.

2004-05 season

The inaugural tournament was played in Lahore and was won by Faisalabad Wolves.[2]

2005-06 season

The second edition of the tournament was played in Karachi and was won by Sialkot Stallions, who defeated Faisalabad Wolves in the final by 6 wickets.[3]

2006-2007 season

The third edition of the tournament again took place in Karachi. Sialkot Stallions won for the second consecutive time defeating Karachi Dolphins in the final by 14 runs.[4]

2007-08 season

The tournament's fourth edition was sponsored by the Royal Bank of Scotland and was played in Lahore. It was again won by Sialkot Stallions who defeated Karachi Dolphins in the final by 7 wickets.[5]

2008-09 season

The fifth edition of the tournament was again played in Lahore and was won by Sialkot Stallions who completed their fourth consecutive triumph in the tournament. The stallions defeated the Lahore Lions in the final by 4 wickets.[6]

2009-10 season

The tournament's sixth edition, sponsored by RBS was held from 28 February to 7 March 2010 in National Stadium, Karachi. Sialkot Stallions successfully defended the title and won the tournament for the fifth consecutive time, defeating Faisalabad Wolves in the final by 5 wickets.

2010-11 season

The seventh edition of the tournament was sponsored by Faysal Bank. The Karachi Dolphins led by Shahid Afridi and the Lahore Lions captained by Mohammad Yousuf competed in the final, which the Lahore Lions won by 37 runs.

2011 Season

The eighth edition of the tournament was played from 24 June to 1 July 2011 in Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad. This edition only included the top eight teams from the last edition. Rawalpindi Rams won the tournament for the first time defeating Karachi Dolphins in the final by 9 runs through Super Over eliminator.

2011-12 Season

The ninth edition of the tournament will be the calendar's full version with all 11 regions (and 13 teams as Karachi and Lahore have two teams) involved, unlike the previous edition which involved just the top eight sides of the country. And a team Afghan Cheetahs from Afghanistan will also participate in the tournament. Sialkot Stallions wins Faysal Bank Twenty20 Cup sixth time in 2011/12.
